MONEY AND MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS
The currency of Venezuela is the Venezuelan bolivar. It is used only by locals. All settlements in tourist areas are conducted in US dollars. Tourists pay in cash.
Important: it is advisable to bring small bills with you, since change is not found everywhere.
Margarita Island is a duty–free trade zone. The prices of goods are significantly lower than on the mainland of the country. In shopping malls, you can also pay with foreign bank cards, including UnionPay cards. But it’s better to use cash dollars.
You can take the Mir card with you to Venezuela. She will be able to pay the PEGAS Touristik hotel guides for excursions. The tour operator has a good range of excursions. There is something to admire.
The first expenses that tourists can expect in Venezuela are buying a local SIM–card. For those tourists who need such a purchase, experts recommend purchasing a mobile connection right at the airport. There is a simpler registration procedure than in the city. And cheaper. The cost of a SIM card at the airport is 10-15 USD. It’s more expensive in the city.
BEACH FEATURES AND SEASONALITY
Margarita has kilometers of beaches and wonderful weather all year round. There is no pronounced seasonality. You can relax here all year round. The Caribbean Sea is guaranteed to be warm (at least +26 degrees).
But still, the best time to travel to Venezuela is considered the period from February to May. In September, there is no wind at all, but high humidity. And in January it often rains, but they are short-lived and do not interfere with rest.
There are about 30 beaches on Margarita . And almost all beaches have waves, regardless of the season.
Margarita is especially appreciated by surfers for her “wave feature”. The island is home to one of the world’s best windsurfing schools. Rental of kite and windsurfing equipment is available at the Paradise Oasis Hotel.
The beach El Yake is included in the TOP 5 spots for surfers. The waves there are “oblique”: that is, you can ride and swim comfortably. There is often a high wave on the beach Ale Agua.
Beaches with moderate waves include Ale Tyrano. Among the most calm beaches in terms of waves are the beaches of the resort Pedro Gonzalez. There is one of the most popular hotels on Margarita Island among Russians – Sunsol Ecoland 4*.
Many tourists like the beaches of Koche Island more. There are practically no waves and snow-white sand. On Margarita, the sand on the beaches is yellow.
HOTELS IN RESORTS IN VENEZUELA: FEATURES
There are no international hotel chains in Venezuela. Only locals. There are good 4-5* and quite decent 3* hotels on Margarita.
Popular hotel chains are Sunsol, Paradise (El Yake beach), the LD hotel chain (in the bay of Playa Puerto Cruz). One of the best hotels in Venezuela – Maloka (on the slope Cerro Matacete).
The services and services in the hotels of the resorts of Venezuela should not be compared with Turkey, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and other countries popular with Russians. In Venezuela, everything is much more modest, but the quality is present. Speaking of Venezuela, it is better to focus on brightness, exoticism and originality.
About practical things:
-
all Margarita Island hotels are located 5-40 minutes drive from the airport, depending on the hotel. There are hotels near which there is absolutely no infrastructure. If you need it, you can use taxi services. The average tariffs are from 10 US dollars. There are no applications. The best thing is to ask for help in this matter at the reception of your hotel
-
in many Margarita hotels 110V sockets. So it’s worth taking with you from Russia an adapter for an “American” socket
-
bpaid Wi-Fi is available in all hotels, only the coverage area and speed differ. There are hotels where Wi-Fi is unstable and works only at the reception
-
the food in the restaurants of the hotels is quite varied. Many tourists say that Venezuela surpasses Cuba in the choice of dishes
-
in hotels in Venezuela there are practically no interruptions in the supply of water and electricity. With few exceptions. It happens that the electricity turns off, but only for 2-3 minutes. This is due to the desalination of water and the operation of generators
-
in Margarita Island hotels there are no water parks, but there are swimming pools. There is a water park outside the hotels, where, among other things, you can swim with dolphins. The cost in comparison with other countries where such activity is possible is attractive – about 75 US dollars
-
check–in at Margarita and Koche hotels at 15 o’clock, check–out at 12 o’clock. There are no Russian-speaking staff in the hotels. But there are Russian-speaking PEGAS Touristik guides and an online translator in phones
-
the all-inclusive system is widespread, there are also hotels with “breakfast” and “half board” types of meals. In addition to eating in hotels, you can always go outside the hotel and buy fresh seafood from the locals, which they will cook with you on mobile roasters. The prices are good – you can buy a couple of lobsters for $ 10. Bargaining is appropriate. In addition to seafood, it is worth buying rum, coffee, cocoa, chocolate, pearl products in Venezuela
-
from any beaches you can take shells and take them home with you. There is no ban on their export.
WHAT GOOD HOTELS ARE THERE ON MARGARITA AND KOCHE ISLAND
Of course, you need to choose a hotel based on your own vacation requests. The range of PEGAS Touristik in Venezuela includes 7 exclusive hotels, 15 hotels have guaranteed rooms. There are also 10 5* hotels, 7 4* hotels and 6 3* hotels in the assortment.
Many hotels are located on the long beach of Agua. All hotels in this location are on the second line (across the street from the beach). There are almost always waves on Agua.
The beaches at the Pedro Gonzalez resort are calm in terms of waves. The hotels located there are suitable for family holidays.
If you want no waves at all, you need to go to the island of Koche. There are only two hotels and calm white beaches, generally more peaceful than on Margarita.

WHAT EXCURSIONS SHOULD I GO ON IN VENEZUELA AND HOW MUCH MONEY SHOULD I TAKE FOR SMALL EXPENSES
Tourist Venezuela is multifaceted and has the right to be proud of not only beaches, but also mountains, caves, jungles and, of course, the national park Kanaima. In this one of the largest nature reserves on the planet there is the highest waterfall in the world – Angel.
To see the waterfall in all its glory, you need to fly up to it – either by plane or by helicopter. Such an excursion at PEGAS Touristik costs about $750 per person.
There are day trips to the national park, there are 2 days. If you choose the second option, you can spend the night in a hammock at the foot of the waterfall. Euphoria is guaranteed. The price difference is negligible – a tour for 2 days costs about $ 1,000, and for one – about $ 750.
Of course, there are excursion programs to the capital of Venezuela, the city of Caracas. It costs about 310 US dollars. Excursions to Koche Island are in demand . Someone is going for a day. Others combine holidays on Margarita Island and Koche. Still others spend all their vacation days in Koche.
There are actually many options. This is a jeep safari, a trip to Cubagua Island, Tabago Island, swimming with dolphins, professional photo shoots. Read more about PEGAS Touristik’s sightseeing offers in Venezuela with prices here.
Prices are not final. On the spot, the cost may change slightly – increase or decrease. For example, if tourists take several excursions, they get a discount.
As for spending on vacation, they directly depend on the desires of each tourist. But in general, Venezuela is an inexpensive country. For example, the average check for lunch in a cafe is 10-20 US dollars. The cocktail costs 2-3 US dollars, rum – 7-15 dollars, depending on the aging and brand. Taxi – 10-20 USD.
