He was at the origins of the Soviet guide training system. In 1980, Jozef Schneidgen was a member of the organizing committee for the excursion service of the Olympic Games participants. He initiated the creation of the Association of Guide Translators, in which he was Chairman of the Board for 10 years, and since 2000 he has been honorary president.
He is the author and co-author of many important and useful publications. So, in 2000, 2003 and 2016, he published collections of materials for the training of guides, translators and guides. The research and writings of Jozef Schneidgen are presented in the Russian Encyclopedic Dictionary “Tourism”, published in 2018.
Despite his advanced age, he was a sought–after guide, was involved in legislation – he was the initiator of the accreditation/certification of guides, enjoyed great authority both among colleagues and all tourism professionals and government representatives, and for many years headed the Expert Council under the Government of Moscow. He actively worked with museums in the field of training and advanced training of guides and interpreters, and collaborated with the travel industry.
