Stop, it's been cut! 10 hotels in Thailand where famous movie characters lived

Thailand has already established itself as a popular destination for Hollywood and international filmmakers. More than 100 films have already been shot in the country this year alone. Tourists can live in Thailand, as in a movie, not only by visiting natural filming locations, but also by staying in hotels where movie characters stayed. We have selected 10 star hotels in popular locations.

Once, during lunch at a trendy cafe in Phuket, we met a famous Russian actor. There were a couple of people in the group who immediately ran to the star with a request for joint photos, but also to find out at the same time which areas Russian media personalities prefer to live in Phuket.

We got the photo, we found out the location – the secluded Cape Panwa hotel. I immediately remembered – but it was in this hotel that Leonardo DiCaprio and the film crew lived during the filming of the movie The Beach. By the way, we approve the choice – we tested the hotel personally (and the photo on the cover of the article is from there). The real spirit of the tropics that reigns in it is really hypnotizing.

Cape Panwa’s atmosphere somehow reminded us of The Slate Hotel. By the way, when he was still Pearl Phuket, Daniel, one of the producers of the film Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, stayed there.

As we have already said, there are many films being shot in Thailand. The country, as part of programs to promote its “cinematic” attractiveness, offers foreign filmmakers good incentives, including financial ones. The result is obvious – in the first 5 months of this year, the country earned almost 3 billion baht on 186 foreign films shot on its territory. Most of the productions were in Bangkok, 123 films were shot in the capital.

Let’s tell you more about the hotels where the filming of new and not so new, but interesting films took place. In each of the hotels that we will indicate, tourists can freely live and catch star inspiration.

THE IMPERIAL MAE PIN IN CHIANG MAI

The InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping Hotel is located in the historical center of Chiang Mai, among the ancient splendor of the northern capital of Thailand. There, in 2015, the plot of the film “There is no Way Out” unfolded, the roles in which were played by such famous actors as Owen Wilson and Pierce Brosnan.

But now the hotel is slightly different from what it was in the movie. The atmosphere of the medieval kingdom of Lanna (XIII-XVIII centuries) was recreated there. In the interior of the hotel, old-time motifs and traditional Lanna art, reflected, among other things, in the works of local artisans, are artfully intertwined with modernity.

On On Hotel is located on Phang Nga Street in Phuket Town. It is there that the main character of the film “The Beach” Leonardo DiCaprio is handed a mysterious map, which later leads him to the islands of Phi Phi.

In the form in which the oldest hotel in Phuket began its activities in 1929, it will no longer be possible to contemplate it. In 2012, the On On Hotel was renovated. But, to the delight of fans of the aesthetics of antiquity, part of the original decor was moved to the first floor. In general, they created a mini-museum there. You can look there while walking around Phuket Town.

It is necessary to visit Phuket Town (aka the Old Town). There are charming Portuguese-Chinese-style streets, colorful street art, mansions once occupied by the tin barons of Phuket, stylish restaurants, shops, creative workshops.

You can book a hotel now at a bargain price. The official website of the hotel offers rooms for June with a 53% discount1800 baht per night (4,500 rubles) for a double room.

Continuing the conversation about hotels and famous films, of course, it is worth mentioning the movie “Bachelor Party 2: From Vegas to Bangkok”. In the picture, viewers see an inspiring urban panorama from the roof of the hotel lebuaat State Tower (6700 baht/16.5 thousand rubles/night in a double room).

And the wedding scenes were filmed in Krabi. The film features two hotels – Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve on Tubkaek beach (from 507 thousand rubles for two for 10 nights in June, PAKS) and Dusit Thani Krabi Beach Resort on Klong Muang Beach.

The list of hotels in Thailand described here that have played roles in Hollywood, Russian, Japanese, Indian, and European films, of course, does not end. It’s just beginning. Many hotels remain behind the scenes. But there is always a high probability to meet a movie star in Thailand, learn about his hotel preferences and replenish his knowledge about the star hotels in Thailand.
