Abkhazia is traditionally in high demand in the summer season. For those who will travel to the Black Sea coast of Abkhazia with children this summer, together with experts from tour operators, we have compiled a mini-guide to resorts, beaches and the best family hotels.
Abkhazia is one of the most actively booked destinations for the 2024 summer season. In favor of the republic – the possibility of entry with an internal Russian passport, nearby there is a developed transport hub in Sochi, affordable prices. Accommodation in Abkhazia in comparable categories of hotels will cost 10-15% cheaper than in the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory.
Together with tour operators “Dolphin”, ALEAN, “Intourist”, “Multitour”, “Russian Express” and FUN&SUN have compiled a short guide to the main resorts and beaches for those who are going to the sea to Abkhazia with children. Experts told which hotels are best suited for a comfortable stay for family tourists.
WHERE TO RELAX WITH CHILDREN IN PITSUNDA
Beaches in Abkhazia are mostly pebbly, less often – sandy and pebbly. The beach season begins in early June, when the water warms up to 20-22 ° C, and lasts until October. In the hottest months (July and August), the average water temperature is 25-27 °C.
According to tour operators, the beaches of Pitsunda are most suitable for holidays with young children: the coastline at this resort is wide, mainly with small and medium pebbles, the sea is clean and transparent, the entrance to the water is gentle. Due to the good width and length, there is enough space for everyone.
“Most of the beaches here are surrounded by pine trees and in the Pitsunda Bay, where there are no strong winds. The most famous beach in Pitsunda is the Central One at the Pitsunda Resort,” FUN&SUN recalled.
Multitour recommends a beach near a Pine Forest. It is located on the opposite side from the central beach of Pitsunda cape. Locals also call this beach Cypress, because you can get to it along the Cypress Alley. The beach is pebbly, up to 50 meters wide. The entrance to the sea is flat, sun loungers and sun beds are available for rent. In the pine forest, which comes right to the shore, you can find a comfortable place with a welcome shade.
The beach of the pension “Litfond” is also suitable for families with children. The local beach is sandy and pebbly: small, medium and large pebbles are mixed with sand and separate areas. The entrance to the sea is indistinct. The facilities include changing rooms, shower, toilet. Sun beds and umbrellas are available on the beach
Recommended hotels for families with children in Pitsunda:
Pension “Pitsunda Resort”. A wide beach strip, small pebbles with islands of dark sand, smooth entry into the sea with gradually decreasing depth. The beach is equipped with sun beds and umbrellas. There is a water park.
Pension “Litfond”. The beach is sandy and pebbly: small, medium and large pebbles are mixed with sand and just stripes. The entrance to the sea is indistinct, gently sloping. The beach is equipped with sun beds and umbrellas.
Sanatorium “Boxwood grove”. Equipped beach, wide beach strip, medium pebbles (special shoes are recommended), uniform entry into the sea.
Dolphin Club Hotel. The beach is wide, small pebbles with the inclusion of sand, the approaches to clean water are generally gentle. Relict pines come close to the shore. The beach is equipped with umbrellas and sun beds.
Boarding house “Pine grove”. A wide coastline, medium pebbles with sand, in the central part of the beach there is a relatively gentle entry into the sea. The beach is equipped with umbrellas and sun beds.
Golden Sands Hotel. The private pebble beach is equipped with canopies, umbrellas, sun loungers and sun beds. There is a playground and animation for children.
WHERE TO RELAX WITH CHILDREN IN TSANDRIPSH
Tsandripsh is a resort village just a few kilometers from the Russian–Abkhazian border, which is optimal for tourists who do not want long journeys from Sochi to their vacation destination. Beaches: sandy and pebbly. There is a rental of umbrellas and sun loungers, but some hotels offer this service to their guests for free.
“The first couple of meters when entering the sea, pebbles of different sizes are found, and then there is a wide sandy strip,” Multitour clarified.
Tsandripsh village is home to one of the most famous beaches in Abkhazia – the White Rocks beach. In the summer heat, the local white stones are almost not heated by sunlight. Thus, natural “sun beds” are obtained.
Recommended hotels for families with children in the village Tsandripsh:
Art Hotel 3*. Boutique hotel with heated pool 100 m from the sea (built in August 2022). Umbrellas and sun loungers are provided free of charge.
Guest house “Chalet by the sea”. 450 m from the public shallow pebble beach. There is free Wi-Fi, a children’s playground, a garden and a barbecue area on site. It is suitable for a relaxing family holiday.
Hotel “Guests of the Caucasus”. There is an outdoor heated swimming pool with a children’s area and a playground. During the high season, animation is provided for young guests. It was commissioned in 2020. The last renovation is 2023-2024. The beach is 760 m away, offers changing rooms and a shower room, umbrellas and sun beds for an additional fee.
Hotel “White Rocks”. Is located in the area of White Cliffs on the first coastline. Nearby is a gorge with waterfalls, a hydrogen sulfide spring with medicinal drinking water.
WHERE TO RELAX WITH CHILDREN IN GAGRA
The warmest and most popular place on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus, which in the XX century was called the “Russian Nice” – Gagra. The resort is located in a cozy bay, and in addition to a beach holiday, it is also a great place for treatment.
There are pebble beaches with sandy areas in Novaya and Staraya Gagra. In the area of Novaya Gagra, there are mainly small–pebble beaches with sandy areas, the largest of them is free – “Central”, with a gentle entrance into the water. Perfect for relaxing with kids.
There are also additional activities outside the hotel: you can look into the water park, walk along the embankment and a beautiful park, go to the markets, there are many decent cafes in the city. In Staraya Gagra– the coastal strip is 40-50 meters wide throughout, covered with pebbles and occasionally sand.

Sunny holiday home. It is located in a pine forest on a picturesque hill on the slope of the Gagra ridge. All rooms have sea views.
Hotel Amra Park Hotel & Spa.High mountains approaching the sea itself close the hotel and the beach from cold winds. The wide coastline is covered with pebbles and occasionally pebbly sand.
Aquamarine Family Club Hotel. The shore is of medium width, gray pebbles of medium size, sometimes turning into very fine, almost sand.
Alex Resort &SPA Hotel 4*. Private pebble beach 50 m from the hotel. Sun beds, umbrellas, towels, showers, changing rooms (use of equipment by bracelets). There is an infrastructure for children’s recreation (a children’s room, animators, a playground, etc.).
Aquamarine Family Club Hotel 4*. The resort complex with developed infrastructure is 30 m from its own sandy and pebble beach. Umbrellas and sun beds are free of charge. There are swimming pools, secure parking, a children’s club and a beach bar. Families with children are provided with the necessary baby supplies: strollers, bathtubs, high chairs, animation.
A.V.Sokol. The hotel is located on the central promenade of the resort. A pebble beach, beach towels, sun loungers, umbrellas are provided. There is an outdoor heated swimming pool. A playground and a children’s club with animators are available for young guests.

WHERE TO RELAX WITH CHILDREN IN SUKHUM
In the capital of Abkhazia, Sukhumi, there is a variety of beaches: from small pebbles to sandy ones. One of the best beaches in Sukhum is the sandy beach “Mocha” (Sinopsky beach) with a length of about 2 km. The entrance to the water is shallow, but the depth increases quickly and sharply. Nevertheless, people come here with children: the sea is clear here, and soft sun beds, umbrellas or awnings, hammocks, swings are available for an affordable price. Wooden paths are laid on the beach for easy movement.
There are other beaches in Sukhum: the “Central” one is sandy and pebbly with a gentle entrance into the water. “Agudzersky” is pebbly (smooth entrance to the water, the bottom is flat, suitable for children, there is a rental of umbrellas and sun loungers), “Mayak” is pebbly with sand placers (flat bottom, stones are found in places). Sun loungers can be rented.
Tour operators also recommend the beach of the Aitar boarding house, which is well equipped, for holidays with children. There is a solarium, comfortable shade tents and a cafe right on the shore with a pleasant view of the sea. The coast is sandy and pebbly, with gradually increasing depth and clear water.
“This side of the Sukhumi Bay is distinguished by a calm sea,” the Dolphin emphasizes.
Recommended hotels for families with children in Sukhum:
Boarding house “Aitar”. It is located next to the Sukhumi Arboretum, on its own protected gated territory equipped with artificial reservoirs. The park area is 3 hectares. The beach is sandy and pebbly, 50 meters from the sea, with increasing depth and clear water.
Boarding house “Kyalasur”. Located on the very shore of the Black Sea, next to the arboretum. A large park area, a sandy and pebble beach with a gentle entrance to the water. Umbrellas from the sun, deck chairs for rent.
Inter-Sukhum Hotel. A year-round hotel complex in the center of Sukhum, 100 m from the city’s small pebble beach. Umbrellas and sun beds (for a fee). An outdoor heated swimming pool is available on site.
The Country of the Soul Hotel. It is located on the first coastline. A green area with relict palms, cypresses, eucalyptus trees and other subtropical plants. There are walking areas, gazebos and cozy corners for relaxation. Private equipped sandy and pebble beach.
WHERE TO RELAX WITH CHILDREN IN GUDAUTA
2 km west of the confluence of the Gudau River with the sea stretches the Central beach of one of the cities-regional centers of Abkhazia – Gudauta. The width of the beach here is sufficient – 40-60 meters, in some places of different sizes pebbles alternate with sand. There are many breakwaters on the eastern edge of Gudauta Beach, they are less common to the west.
The beach is well maintained: there are changing rooms and changing cabins, you can rent a sunbed and an umbrella. The entrance to the water is smooth. There are attractions in the park nearby.

Hotel Villa Primorskoe. It is located on the first coastline.On the sandy and pebble beach there are shade canopies, sun beds, showers, changing cabins (free of charge). There is a children’s playground.
Papa Dom Hotel. A new hotel next to a public pebble beach (50 m), beach towels, umbrellas and sun loungers are provided free of charge. There are 2 outdoor pools on site, one of which is heated, as well as children’s animation.
Eco Papa Hotel. It is located a 5-minute walk from the pebble beach (500 m). The main feature is a large outdoor heated swimming pool with a separate section for children. Beach towels, umbrellas and sun loungers are provided free of charge.
Volga Hotel. A well-maintained sandy and pebble beach (sun beds and umbrellas for an additional fee), width in some places up to 60 meters, pebbles of different sizes alternating with sand, gentle entry into the sea.
WHERE TO RELAX WITH CHILDREN IN NEW ATHOS
The main city beach in New Athos is located in the Primorsky Park area. Its length is about a kilometer, its width is small – up to 20-25 meters.
There are medium-sized pebbles on this beach. A small exception is the area near the pier with sandy islands. The descent into the water is smooth. There is a rental of beach equipment, changing rooms, canopies.
Recommended hotels for families with children in New Athos:
Green Terrace Hotel. It is located in a secluded place on the very shore of the sea. There are three swimming pools on the closed territory of the hotel, two of which are heated.
Anakopia Club Hotel. It is located on the very shore of the sea. Private sandy and pebble beach is 50 meters away. Deck chairs and sun beds are free of charge.
Manresa Resort Park Hotel (p. Psyrtsha). The eco-complex is built from environmentally friendly materials. There is an outdoor swimming pool, a children’s club with a mini cinema and a playground, and an animation program in the evenings. The distance to the sea is 750 meters: a shuttle service to the public beach and back is planned according to the schedule.
