Where to go by car from Moscow for a weekend with age-related parents: locations, hotels, expenses

You live in Moscow. Your mother came to you from another city for the weekend. You want to go on a short car trip together. So that you can be filled with new impressions and not overwork yourself. The correspondent of Vestnik ATOR tells about a personal trip formed by such a request. We tell you about the route, locations, and expenses for the trip. Spoiler: we met 30 thousand rubles.

There are a lot of beautiful and pleasant places near Moscow where you can break off for the weekend. Meanwhile, it can sometimes be difficult to figure out where to take my mother for a couple of days. You may have different interests. Mom wants one thing, you want another. And here we need a universal idea.

In our case, it was like this: one wanted to see ancient temples, the other wanted to stay in silence and take a break from the pleasant, but noise of Moscow.

Taking into account the fact that we have already studied such locations as Kolomna and Sergiev Posad, it was decided to move a little further away from the capital. But so that is not more than 400 km.

The choice fell on the cities of Murom and Vladimir. We also wanted to include Suzdal in the trip, but in the end there was not enough time to check in there. They left it for the next trip.

FROM MOSCOW TO MUROM BY CAR: ROAD, HOTELS, FOOD AND ATTRACTIONS

We were traveling from Moscow to Murom along the M-12 Vostok expressway. The highway starts in Moscow from the MKAD (at the intersection with the Northeastern Chord). The M-12 has a barrier-free “Free Flow” system. Barrier–free – this means that there are no barriers or payment points. If there is no transponder, the fare must be paid via the Avtodor website within 5 days after the trip. You will receive a bill for Public Services. In our case, the fare to Murom was 2054 rubles.

Driving along the M-12 highway is a pleasure. This is when you go for the sake of going, and not just to get from point A to point B. In general, the road itself is also a rich emotional experience.

Gas stations on the M12 highway are as comfortable as possible. Photo: ATOR

Gas stations alone are worth a lot. They appreciated not only clean and modern toilets, but also a rich selection of delicious food and freshly squeezed juices. Gas stations on the highway – every 50-100 km.

The journey from Moscow to Murom took us 4 hours. Already at 10 a.m. we were at our hotel X-ROOM 4*. We chose the accommodation based on the location and price. We were looking for a hotel in the center and no more expensive than 6-7 thousand rubles per room per day.

A decent placement option in The X-ROOM 4 hotel is located in the center of Murom. Parking at the hotel is free. Photo: ATOR

The hotel, as it turned out, actually met our requirements – fashionable, stylish, comfortable, quiet. There is delicious food in the restaurant, polite staff in the lobby, interesting author’s souvenirs and brochures with top attractions. We visited everywhere the mini-guide “sent”.

We started with Peasant Square, located a 15-minute walk from the hotel and a 7-minute drive away. It is convenient to travel by car in Murom: there are no traffic jams, you can park the car anywhere. Is free.

Two monasteries are located on the square at once – Blagoveshchenskiy and Troitsky. The relics of Saints Peter and Fevronia are kept in the Holy Trinity Convent.

Next to the monasteries there is a bronze monument to Peter and Fevronia. Be careful at the monument. Do not leave immediately after the photo. Go around the monument and see a hare with a worn nose and paws. Locals and tourists believe that the hare fulfills wishes.

Next to the monument to the holy couple, artists paint paintings, and the cheese maker sells his “delicious creativity”. The souvenir shop sells beautiful handbags, magnets, postcards. By the way, many Murom postcards depict a water tower and a monument to kalach. These two locations are across the street from each other.

Tip: before photographing the monument to the kalach, take a look at the nearby bazaar and buy a real kalach there for 100 rubles. And then a photo of a roll on the background of a roll.

And what kind of photos are obtained against the background of the Oka River. Try to take a selfie on the observation deck at the monument to Ilya Muromets. First against the background of the river, then against the background of the hero.

Information for those wishing to ride along the Oka: an hour-long boat trip costs 400 rubles per person.

Information for those who want to become as strong as the epic hero: you need to plunge into the holy spring, named after St. Ilya Muromets. It is also worth touching the epic stone, which is located at the entrance to the city.

You will find the holy spring on the southern outskirts of the city of Murom, in the former village of Karacharovo, in the homeland of the hero. Important: take a shirt with you.

In Murom, there is an opportunity to see lightness from the outside. We arrived at Holy Resurrection Monastery. He stands near the Oka, surrounded by fragrant flowers. It’s so peaceful there that it seems you can feel this very Russian soul.

The Oksky Park also caused delight. In ancient times, the Kremlin was located on the site of the park, which was later demolished as unnecessary. Yes, Oksky Park is one of the oldest in Russia. And Murom itself is one of the most ancient Russian cities. It is believed that traces its history back to 862, and in 2024 the city celebrates its 1162nd anniversary .

It seems that the Soviet era still lives in the park. All these attractions from the “past” (chains, steam trains), soda machines. However, a cup costs, of course, no longer 3 kopecks – from 10 to 25 rubles. But the taste of drinks, they say, is one in one.

The Ferris wheel offers stunning views of the city and one of the most beautiful bridges in Russia – the cable-stayed Murom Bridge. In total 200 rubles., but as if plunged into the past.

By the way, the Oka Park will soon be transformed: A large playground will be built here, hiking trails will be equipped, new shops and gazebos will be installed. So, those who want to plunge into the past should hurry up with coming here.

There are many beautiful places in the center of Murom walking areas. Photo: ATOR

Walking in the parks of Murom, do not deny yourself ice cream. It’s delicious in Murom. A large horn costs 80 rubles. Food prices are affordable in the city. In a good cafe in the center, you can have a full lunch together for 1.5 thousand rubles. There is an option to buy ready-made food in the store.

Our hotel had a SPAR store, which had an unimaginable number of ready meals in its assortment. For 1 thousand rubles. we bought 2 servings of soup (you can warm it up in the store), meat with vegetables, drinks, pies, rolls.

As a resultwe spent 2.5 thousand rubles for two people per day for food in Murom (breakfast was at the hotel).

Before we get in the car and go to Vladimir, we will leave a few more top Murom locations here. All of them can be bypassed in one day and they are all free:

  • The Annunciation Monastery
  • Armored train “Ilya Muromets”
  • Central Square
  • Church of Cosmas and Damian
  • Nikolo-Embankment Church
  • Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery

The requirements for a hotel in Vladimir were similar to those of Murom – so that it was in the center and cozy. We booked a hotel Chester 4*, a room for 6 thousand rubles. per day.

The hotel, unlike Murom, is small. All rooms are located on the same floor. The breakfasts are delicious. Bonus for guests: the soup of the day is prepared every day. Cancome to the restaurant at any time and eat. It’s free. There is also a coffee machine and tea in the restaurant. There is no tea station in the rooms. But there are comfortable beds, a good bathroom. TV, slippers, cosmetics – everything is in place.

You can walk around the historical center of Vladimir without a purpose (the Old Town starts from the Golden Gate and ends after the Nativity Monastery). You can’t pass by history and beauty anyway. Every house here is a historical monument. Whatever the location, it’s a photo location. What is only the pedestrian Georgievskaya street, stylized as a street of the XIX century.

On There are many museums on Georgievskaya Street (the local Arbat). And there is even a working forge. There are also funny sculptures and an “Old Pharmacy”. She worked from 1805 to 2010. Now there is a museum ( entrance – 250 rubles.) with a recreated interior of the XIX century. There is a pastry shop in the pharmacy building. Yes, it’s worth drinking coffee and sweetening life there.

There are no problems with cafes and restaurants in Vladimir. There are many of them. In the center, they are all aesthetically pleasing. I want to sit there for a long time and not rush anywhere. The prices are affordable. For example, dinner in a cafe cost us 1,4 thousand rubles for two. For this money, they brought us a dish “perch with vegetables”, udon with beef and a liter of homemade lemonade (raspberry + mint).

It is impossible to visit all the sights of the city in one day, let’s list the popular locations for a landmark:

  • Gingerbread House Museum
  • The fairy tale Museum “Babusya Yagusya”
  • Lipki Park
  • Observation deck on the top floor of the water tower, in the museum “Old Vladimir”
  • Water tower
  • Observation deck on Pushkin Boulevard
  • Patriarch’s Garden
  • Shopping Malls complex
  • Sky 33 Ferris Wheel
  • Singing Fountain
  • Vladimir Planetarium
  • Retro warehouse
  • Church of the Holy Rosary

In Vladimir, you can buy an original souvenir – perfume with the “smell of Vladimir” (cherry, apple, fresh bread).

And if Vladimir were a sound? It would probably be a light melody that could go as a background to reading a book somewhere outdoors. And poems could be written to the tune of Vladimir.

Thank you, Murom and Vladimir. Moscow, meet me. Photo: ATOR

And on the day of our stay there, on August 24, the city celebrated its birthday – 1034th anniversary. The governor of the Vladimir region spoke at the opening Alexander Avdeev.

Among other things, he recalled that the famous tourist route “The Golden Ring of Russia”, which includes Vladimir, will turn 60 years old in three years. The route will be improved by this date.

HOW MUCH MONEY IS NEEDED FOR A TWO–DAY TRIP FOR TWO ON THE ROUTE MOSCOW – MUROM – VLADIMIR

The road from Vladimir to Moscow took us 3 hours (the fare on the M-12 is 1085 rubles.). The time passed unnoticed during the conversations. We decided to go like this again, but to other places.

We won’t reveal the plans yet. It is better to calculate the budget of the already successfully completed road trip on the route Moscow – Murom – Vladimir – Moscow for two people for two days:

  • gasoline (of course, it depends on the car) – 3.5 thousand rubles.
  • food and coffee/juices at gas stations – 1.5 thousand rubles.
